Patients in Walnut Creek, CA ask about the benefits of undergoing Microneedling treatment

Skin rejuvenation services are just one of many cosmetic treatments highly requested by our patients here at The Skin and Laser Treatment Institute. Dr. Christine Lee is a dermatologist in Walnut Creek, CA who is proud to offer a variety of options for her patients to consider. Her patients are educated on the benefits of treatments such as microneedling, which can transform the texture and tone of the skin in as little as one session.

Benefits of undergoing Microneedling treatment

Microneedling explained

The idea of microneedling can sound scary to patients. A special device is used with many very tiny needles to puncture the surface of the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process. During this time, the skin develops collagen and elastin to restore the its health. This can result in a more youthful appearance and can address a variety of issues on the skin. Microneedling is best used for issues such as:

  • Poor skin tone and texture
  • Acne
  • Acne scarring
  • Pigmentation issues
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Dull skin appearance

Where can microneedling be used?

Many of our patients use microneedling on the face, but it can be used anywhere on the body, including the hands, arms, legs, and even the abdomen. Most patients are appropriate candidates for microneedling, as it is safe and effective on all types of skin. This makes it a highly desirable option for all of our patients to consider, while other therapies such as laser treatments may be more aggressive and expensive.

What can I expect during my microneedling procedure?

The first step is consulting with our board-certified dermatologist to determine if microneedling is right for you. Once patients have decided to move forward with treatment, the doctor applies a topical anesthetic to the skin for optimum comfort. A device called the Eclipse MicroPen™ is rolled over the skin gently, using a dozen small needles to puncture the upper layer of the skin. Many patients explain the procedure as the feeling of sandpaper brushing against the skin. For patients who are treating the facial area, treatment takes approximately 30 minutes. Once patients leave the office, they may experience some redness in the treatment area that will resolve itself after a few days. Within six months, many of our patients begin to see the results they’ve desired, and may seek continued treatments to enjoy optimal improvements. This is due to the time it takes for the skin to develop collagen and elastin on its own through the healing process. While the results take time, they are well worth the wait!

Why choose microneedling?

Microneedling is a safe and effective way to address poor texture and tone of the skin, along with other skin concerns. It is affordable for many of our patients, and is one of the less aggressive methods available in our practice for skin rejuvenation. Patients seeking a laser-free option are welcome to find out more about how microneedling can transform the appearance of their skin. Microneedling can also be used in conjunction with other services in our practice, so we encourage patients to consult with our team to ask about combining treatments for optimum results. For example, patients considering anti-aging services may want to combine their microneedling services with cosmetic injectables such as dermal fillers or Botox. Many of these treatments can be used together, spaced apart over time, to give patients the results they truly desire so they can look and feel their absolute best!
