We encourage patients to be proactive about their skin care. This includes visiting a dermatologist once a year for a head-to-toe evaluation to check for areas of concern that may indicate the development of skin cancer. Screenings in our office and allow our team to evaluate the skin and check for any potential problems.
Dr. Christine Lee will take a biopsy of anything that appears concerning during the skin cancer screening. This may be an unusual mole, a wound that won’t heal, or any type of growth that has developed. The biopsy is sent to a laboratory to check for cancerous skin cells during which an official diagnosis is made.
Patients who have skin cancer will receive a proper diagnosis from our laboratory following their biopsy. There are several types of skin cancer, and treatment may vary depending on the type, the size, and the location. Treatment may include excision, Mohs micrographic surgery, or radiation. After a diagnosis, patients discuss with their doctor the best possible treatment to remove the cancer and bring them back to health.
