Understanding the benefits of SmartLipo in California

For years fitness experts have led us to believe that gorgeous flat abs and contoured bodies could be ours if we’d just do a few more crunches or another cardio workout. Of course, it is important for your overall wellness to stay in good shape, and toned muscles look great. However, in truth, fat deposits depend on two things – calories consumed and genetics.

When you take in more calories than you burn, the excess energy is stored in the body as fat. Nature designed us this way so that we have a stockpile to utilize during times when not enough food is available. However, in our culture, that rarely happens, so we have to increase activity to expend more calories.

Where the fat builds up depends to a large degree on heredity (and to a lesser extent on your age and gender). Your gene pool determines your body shape, as well as whether you’ll build stores of fat around the mid-section, thighs, buttocks, upper arms, or elsewhere. Targeted exercise will burn calories all over, but no workout will dictate where that fat comes off.

Are you then destined to live with unsightly bulges? Of course not! Dr. Christine Lee’s skill and experience can rescue you from stubborn fat and restore shapely contours to your body using a relatively new technique called SmartLipo.

SmartLipo, FDA approved in 2006, combines the fat reduction benefits of traditional liposuction with the science of laser technology. It is well suited to localized areas of fat that aren’t extensive, for example on male breasts, back fat, arms, neck, jowls, and face.

The treatment area is numbed with local anesthetic and Dr. Lee makes a tiny incision (about the same as the thickness of a dime). A thin tube is inserted, which contains a laser fiber. The laser is moved in a sweeping motion through the fat deposit, just beneath the skin. As it contacts the fat, heat from the laser ruptures the cells. Small amounts of this liquefied oily byproduct are harmlessly absorbed and excreted by the liver. The doctor may suction out larger amounts.

Because this method is less invasive than traditional liposuction, there is reduced risk, less discomfort, and a shorter recovery period. There’s another big benefit to SmartLipo – its laser energy also stimulates the body to produce a substance called collagen. Collagen is the protein that gives structure and strength to your skin. So, while SmartLipo literally melts away fat, it also firms and tightens skin tone for a more attractive outcome.

When you’re ready to take a stand against tenacious fat that won’t respond to diet and exercise, call The Skin and Laser Treatment Institute to find out more about SmartLipo.
